The kitchens and dining room of Thierry Marx's restaurant, ONOR, Paris
For ONOR, Thierry Marx's latest restaurant, Mathilde de l'Ecotais—in collaboration with Bobo Design Studio—created a complete design where imagery becomes the conceptual thread of a socially conscious and responsible space. Zero plastic, zero tablecloths, 100% made in France, and vintage finds to which ONOR gives a second life.
Before becoming ONOR, this space was once home to the restaurant La Marée. To pay homage to this history, Mathilde de l'Ecotais conceived a design that weaves a connection between past and present. Using a photograph of a crab, she captured the ethereal textures of its shell, transforming them into fluid, marine forms. These almost immaterial shapes suggest breath, the sea, life itself. They imbue the entire space with an organic and soothing presence.
From this foundational image emerge the walls, the menu, the tables, and even the kitchen's design. Printed on leather and integrated directly into the tables, this motif replaces cotton tablecloths. Lacquered onto recycled aluminum panels, it substitutes for paint and becomes a lasting decorative element. This choice reflects ONOR's strong commitment to reducing water consumption and promoting sustainable materials, while also giving a second life to the objects within the space.
A rare and unique gesture: here, the kitchen is not a hidden space, but an extended and sublimated visual territory, echoing the dining room.
This balance between culinary creation and artistic creation makes ONOR a place where sensitivity circulates everywhere, from the worktop to the wall, from the gesture of the chef to that of the artist.
The table thus becomes the stage for an encounter between nature, matter and memory.
