FUGU OR FISH SWITCHES

Mathilde de l'Ecotais designs entire universes from a photograph. Here, with the Fugu fin, she plays with the ceiling height and creates a zenithal opening that brightens the space and naturally illuminates the photograph.

This fin, mounted on a movable panel, appears like a knife pointing at the cook. An iconic image from this Japanese series, it has also been used as a set design for a television program, in bathrooms, and as furniture. At the Mondrian, in the lobby of the legendary hotel on the Croisette in Cannes, redesigned in azure blues, it evokes the sea and the breath of the open ocean...

"There is no conflict between beauty and utility."
