Black Series
In Série Noire, Mathilde de l'Ecotais explores the multiple faces of black: she braids, superimposes, constrains matte and glossy prints until the original photograph becomes a photographic sculpture.
The glossy ones leap forward, the matte ones fold back, the light shapes and highlights the reliefs of the prints constrained by Mathilde's hand.
This series, inspired by a stay on the Japanese island of Yakushima, goes beyond the frame and the artist takes photography towards another discipline.
